Region 16 animated logo donut

Building brand awareness and credibility through visually impactful intro and outro logo animations.

Context

Region 16 Comprehensive Center, which supports state education agencies in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington to close gaps and build capacity, had recently expanded into video as part of its resource offerings.

While keeping communities, students, and educators at the center of each story, the organization needed a subtle, cohesive branding strategy to strengthen visibility and position the Center as a trusted resource for educators, families, and leaders.

Strategy

  • Develop a flexible motion branding kit applied across video assets.
  • Reinforce brand identity through color, movement, and timing.
  • Subtly integrate required funding disclaimers to remained compliant while minimizing distraction.
  • Use sound design to enhance polish, production quality, and visual impact.

Tactics

  • Design and animate a logo sequence featuring a gradient treatment of the brand’s six primary colors over a Pacific Northwest landscape.
  • Choreograph motion elements, including logo entrance, light flash, and subtle zoom, to create visual rhythm.
  • Produce and layered sound effects to reinforce motion cues.
  • Deliver a second version with integrated funding disclaimer text for flexible use.

outcome

A polished, adaptable motion branding asset that elevated the professionalism of Region 16’s video content while strengthening brand recognition.

The dual-version approach allowed the organization to meet compliance requirements without compromising visual clarity or audience engagement.

Alaska Department of Education & Early Development

My Roles

Directing, videography, storyboarding, editing, graphics, and post-production

Context

For years, Alaska ranked near or at the bottom among all states on national reading assessments, leading the Alaska State Board of Education to adopt Alaska’s Education Challenge in 2017, prioritizing early literacy to close opportunity gaps and improve student outcomes.

The Alaska Department of Education & Early Development launched a series of initiatives to equip educators with evidence-based literacy tools, including the Alaska Reads Act, annual Science of Reading Symposia, virtual and in-person professional development, and printed resources backed by the Science of Reading.

Though the 2024 symposium marked only the end of the first year of implementation, educators were already talking about their students' significant gains in reading.

Deliverables

I created a documentary-style video that captures the momentum of the Reads Act's first three years; informs parents, school boards, and community members of state literacy initiatives and developments; and compels state lawmakers to continue supporting these efforts.

I served as director/videographer for all interviews and b-roll, created the storyboard, edited and implemented post-production, and wrote and designed all graphics for this video. The video will be shown at future reading symposia, on the state senate floor, and at school board and PTA gatherings around the state.
